Harbaria EcoTourism Center

হারবাড়িয়া

The Harbaria Ecotourism Center, located within the Sundarbans, serves as a gateway to the world's largest mangrove forest, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the unique biodiversity and tranquil beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in the Chandpai Range by the Pashur River, is further inside the forest from Karamjal, and takes about 3 hours to reach there from Khulna. The center is designed to promote sustainable tourism while providing educational insights into the region's rich ecosystem.

Visitors to Harbaria can explore well-maintained trails that wind through the mangroves, offering chances to observe a variety of wildlife, including spotted deer, wild boar, monkeys, and a wide range of bird species, including and Lesser Adjutant (Madantak). It also has a beautiful freshwater pond full of water lilies where wild animals come to drink. The area is also home to the elusive Bengal tiger, and though sightings are rare, the center provides information on the tiger's habitat and conservation efforts. The canal in front of the Center is a sanctuary for salt-water crocodiles. The best time to see the crocodiles is winter when they can be found sun basking at the banks of the river.

In addition to its natural attractions, the Harbaria Ecotourism Center features a 1 km long wooden trail that ends in the deep forest at a viewing tower, offering panoramic views of the surrounding forest and waterways. These vantage points are ideal for birdwatching and photography. The center also includes interpretive displays that educate visitors about the Sundarbans' delicate ecosystem, the importance of mangrove forests, and the challenges of conservation in this unique environment.

Harbaria is a popular stop for visitors embarking on boat tours of the Sundarbans, providing a peaceful and informative introduction to one of the most biodiverse regions in the world.
