On the Map

The Greater Sundarbans region can be defined on a map as the government districts of Satkhira, Khulna, and Bagerhat. These three districts form the lower half of Khulna Division, situated in the southwestern corner of Bangladesh, bordered by the Bay of Bengal and West Bengal, India.

The tourism industry in this destination is mainly focused on supporting and promoting the Sundarbans Reserved Forest, the region's main attraction. The communities surrounding the forest provide essential infrastructure, services, and accommodations that facilitate access to the Sundarbans, ensuring that visitors can experience the unique biodiversity and natural beauty of this globally significant mangrove ecosystem.

Surrounding the Sundarbans forest is the Ecologically Critical Area (ECA), a buffer zone established to protect the sensitive ecosystem. Beyond the ECA lies the Sundarbans Impact Zone (SIZ), an area where human activities are regulated to minimize environmental impact. The Greater Sundarbans tourism brand encompasses all these areas, forming a comprehensive tourism zone that includes both protected and surrounding areas.
